Debate on the Future of SF Elections

Special Program

Ranked-choice voting (RCV) and public financing of campaigns have been controversial since their introduction in the early 2000s. RCV was put to the test in San Francisco's 2011 mayor’s race, the 2010 District 10 supervisor race and Oakland’s 2010 mayoral election. A proposal to repeal RCV and return to December runoff elections has been introduced at the SF Board of Supervisors, and the San Francisco Ethics Commission is discussing changes to public financing. Join us for a debate that truly matters, one that contests the best way to structure our city’s democracy for the 21st century. Moderated by University of San Francisco professor Corey Cook, with San Francisco City Supervisor Sean Elsbernd and RCV expert Steven Hill debating the future of elections in San Francisco.
