Sarah Atkinson

SPUR seeks to improve the Bay Area's ability to respond and recover from environmental hazards like earthquakes, groundwater rise, and sea level rise through policy advocacy and research. As the Hazard Resilience Sr. Policy Manager, Sarah (she/her) leads SPUR’s work on hazard mitigation and adaptation, and environmental justice. While pursuing her masters in city planning, Sarah focused on climate adaptation, community-led planning, and disaster mitigation. Prior to graduate school, Sarah worked in community food access and education, environmental communications, and green construction in both the Bay Area and Massachusetts. Her commitment to racial equity and social justice strongly inform her work. Sarah holds a Master’s degree in city & regional planning, and a B.A. in environmental sciences from the University of California at Berkeley.
