Tour

Historically the center of San Francisco’s industrial past, Showplace Square continues to transform itself. The neighborhood first morphed into a furniture showroom district, and later to a more generalized design district. The Showplace Square of today melds design showrooms with local artisan manufacturing of interior soft goods, furniture, and building products, and retail. Join us for a history-filled walking tour of Showplace Square, from the perspective of local artisan manufacturers and designers. We'll visit Dawsom Custom Workroom, Buddy Rhodes Concrete, and a local furniture manufacturer. The tour will feature a stop at the San Francisco Design Center where we will explore the connections between design and manufacturing, and discuss the influence the recent rezoning of the Eastern Neighborhood has played in the development of the area. The tour will be led by Kate Sofis of SFMade, a local non-profit launched in 2010 focusing on supporting and developing San Francisco’s manufacturing sector. This tour will be approximately 2.5 hours.
