The coastal bluffs of the Presidio are lined with fortifications that guarded the Golden Gate from the time of the Civil War to World War II. These massive and mysterious gun batteries represent not only the importance of San Francisco as a world-class port and military hub, but they played an important role in the conservation of the open space that became Golden Gate National Recreation Area. Join National Park Service historian Stephen Haller for this scenic walk along the newly improved California Coastal Trail in the Presidio.
