The recent publication Bedside Essays for Lovers (of Cities) introduces the idea of continuous cities — cities that add vibrant new chapters to their history without eradicating it. Throughout their histories, San Francisco and San Jose have approached this idea differently. San Francisco has used its social housing as the backbone for continuity while San Jose, growing in an era of the ruptured city, is quickly mending its own continuity. Join us for a comparison of both cities and a discussion of how ideas of continuous cities are being introduced into discontinuous ones.
