As the former mayor of Bogotá, Colombia, Enrique Peñalosa led a profound transformation in both the way the city is built and in how it is appreciated. With a focus on delivering key projects like the TransMilenio bus rapid transit system and one of the largest bicycle networks in Latin America — as well as notable improvements in libraries, land use, affordable housing and public space — Mayor Peñalosa brought diverse sectors of the city together to overcome common challenges and become recognized as a model for urban change.
