With the existing BART tube over 40 years old and regional growth that refuses to slow, Bay Area leaders have begun to seriously discuss the planning and design of a second transbay rail crossing. Though the East Bay already connects to San Francisco and the Peninsula through a variety of modes, an additional rail crossing may prove necessary if the Bay Area is to continue to be a global leader in connectivity and sustainability.
