Faced with the necessity of a 9.1-million-dollar slash to the budget mid-way through the school year, the Oakland Unified School District (OUSD) is scrambling to find ways to navigate its way out of its financial troubles. However, despite this budgetary hole the district is still not without significant assets, especially when it comes to real estate. How can OUSD utilize these existing assets to alleviate its fiscal crisis? Come to SPUR Oakland to learn more and brainstorm options with a panel of experts. Generously sponsored by the Rogers Family Foundation.
Please note that this event was originally titled "Understanding Oakland's Education Options." However, we've chosen to pivot this discussion, and the other programs in our Making Oakland Schools Great series, to explore the cause, impacts of and solutions for the district's current budget shortfall.
