Until November 2021, California's 17th State Assembly District, comprising roughly half of San Francisco’s population, was represented by David Chiu. But his recent appointment by Mayor London Breed to be San Francisco’s city attorney triggered a special election to fill his vacated seat, with the primary election now calendared for February 15, 2022. Four candidates, each with long histories of working for the public good, have thrown their hats into the ring to represent the district. Where do they stand on many of the most pressing challenges we face today? Join candidates David Campos, Matt Haney, Bilal Mahmood and Thea Selby for a rapid-fire forum, moderated by SPUR’s San Francisco Director Sujata Srivastava, to hear their views on some of the Bay Area’s — and California’s — critical issues, including the housing crisis, growing homelessness, underfunded transit, climate change, the racial wealth gap, access to healthy food and more.
