Earthquake Recovery in Türkiye

Digital Discourse

to

The wreckage of a collapsed building, Diyarbakır, Turkey.

It has been a year and a half since the magnitude 7.8 and magnitude 7.5 earthquakes devastated Türkiye and Syria. As a result of the earthquakes, 56,000 people died, 240,000 buildings were damaged or destroyed, and over 1 million people were displaced from their homes. Why did the earthquakes cause so much damage in Türkiye? Where is Türkiye now in the recovery timeline and how are leaders thinking about housing recovery and “building back better”? Join our panelists as they answer these questions and how they have integrated lessons learned into their practice.
