SPUR's Quarterly Book Club provides a unique opportunity to explore books that intersect with our core policy areas, all while engaging directly with the authors behind the ideas. This spring, we're excited to host UC Berkeley City & Regional Planning Assistant Professor, Zachary Lamb, for a lively discussion of his recent book, The Equitably Resilient City: Solidarities and Struggles in the Face of Climate Crisis.

In The Equitably Resilient City, Zachary Lamb and co-author, Lawrence Vale, explores how cities can adapt to climate change while also supporting their most vulnerable residents. The book uses 12 case studies from places like Paris, Bolivia, Bangkok, and New Orleans, to examine various urban challenges like heatwaves, droughts, and floods. Through concrete examples of planning, community efforts, and design, the authors show that creating fair and resilient cities is not just an idealistic goal but something achievable when grounded in solidarity and equity.

'The Equitably Resilient City: Solidarities and Struggles in the Face of Climate Crisis' has won this year's Urban Affairs Association Book of the Year Award.
