2014 Good Government Awards: How Zoon Nguyen United 500 Couples in One Weekend

SPUR’s 34th annual Good Government Awards, held March 11, 2014, honored City of San Francisco employees who have performed exceptionally, becoming models for other agencies and cities around the country.

Under the leadership of Zoon Nguyen, the San Francisco Office of the Assessor-Recorder increased regular assessments by $341 million. Nguyen’s team, which was responsible for planning and implementing the office’s 2013 electronic system rollout, increased the percentage of electronically recorded documents to 25.2 percent in seven months. When the federal court announced the resumption of same-sex marriages in California on a Friday, she organized staff and volunteers to keep the office open throughout the weekend, allowing 500 same-sex marriage licenses to be issued that weekend.
