ABAG and MTC have worked to improve regional long-range forecasting and modeling in the Bay Area. In particular, SPUR applauds their latest ambition to reflect the feedback between housing supply and prices, and the total jobs and people who will come to and stay in the region. Understanding these dynamics is critical to solving our housing crisis. In addition, this plan will rest on innovations in scenario planning and investigations into household formation and in-commuting – all of which enable a regional plan that is more robust to inherent uncertainty in the coming decades. SPUR recognizes MTC and ABAG’s thought leadership and offers additional research and process considerations as they finalize the forecast methodology for Plan Bay Area 2050.
