While recent attention has been paid to the emerging foods trends and small manufacturers in the Bay Area (from cheese in Point Reyes to artisan bread in Emeryville to chocolate in San Francisco), the Bay Area has a much longer history as a center of food manufacturing. Case in point: Mother's Cookies was founded in Oakland in 1914 and Del Monte foods is still headquartered in San Francisco. Come hear about this rich and interesting history from UC Berkeley geography professor Dick Walker.
